Repeat Prescriptions

To order a repeat prescription we ask that you either bring your prescription counterfoil into the surgery, ticking the items that you require, or use our online prescription service by clicking on the link at the top of this page.

You may use the online prescription service at any time (System Online), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, even when the practice is closed. However you should not use this service for emergencies or urgent requests or for medication which is not on your repeat slip. To order your repeat prescription online you will need to first visit the surgery with identification so that we can issue you with your user ID and password.  Please ask at reception for further details.

We also now have a dedicated prescription email address for repeat prescription requests and enquiries about your medication: bmcprescriptions.request-enquiries@nhs.net

Please note, for patient safety reasons, we do not take repeat prescription requests over the telephone or fax.

Only items that are on the repeat medication list can be issued as repeat items, for all medication that is not on repeat prescription, please make a routine appointment to see the doctor.

Please allow three full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.

Electronic Prescribing Service

This practice is set up for the electronic prescription service.

This means that for most patients we can send your prescription to your chosen chemist directly saving you having to come down to the surgery.

To get your prescription sent to your chosen pharmacy you will have to ask reception to sign up.

More information EPS.

Medication Reviews

Please make an appointment to see our Clinical Pharmacist for a medication review when the review date near the bottom of your repeat prescription is showing as due. Medication reviews are essential to ensure the best continuing treatment of your condition.

If your medication is solely for one of the conditions that can be dealt with by our nurses, for example, asthma, then please make an appointment with them.  This is an essential and very important requirement if you are to continue to take your medication safely and effectively.

Collection Service

The health centre is part of a repeat prescription collection service in which local chemists are involved. You can select which chemist you would like your prescription to be collected by and they will dispense your medication for you.

Please enquire at reception if you would like more details or wish to take part in the scheme.  If, however, you wish to continue to collect your prescription from the surgery, please do so.  If you would like your repeat prescription posted back to you, please enclose a stamped self-addressed envelope with your repeat request.

Pharmacy

There is a Boots Pharmacy located in the same building as Bilborough Medical Centre. Alternatively, click here to search for your nearest Pharmacy.

Prescription Fees

Help with NHS costs

In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:

  • those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
  • those who are age exempt
  • those with certain medical conditions
  • More information is available at NHS Choices

NHS Charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

  • Prescription (per item): £9.65
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £111.60
  • 3-month PPC: £31.25

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

  • Telephone advice and order line 0845 850 0030
  • General Public - Buy or Renew a PPC On-line
